northside-darts-volunteer-jason-aisbettJason, a 31-year-old firefighter and active volunteer, claims the North Sydney Community Award 2017 for his outstanding contribution to the third sector in a meaningful and impactful way beyond the call of duty. His work with the Northside DARTS program, the only door-to-door transport combined with recreational activities for wheelchair users across Sydney, is paramount in supporting people living with disability and preventing social isolation. He has volunteered for 52 day trips– 8 hours a day with around 19 clients on average.

Not only does Jason volunteer with the DARTS program, but he has also volunteered with the Australian Civil Air Patrol (AUSCAP) saving lives in crisis and with the Australian Aviation Museum Bankstown. He’s an active volunteer at the local church supporting elderly people in North Sydney to live a fulfilling independent life in the community. And if that isn’t impressive enough, he also does fundraising volunteer support for other charities such as City2Surf, The Starlight Foundation, Rebel Run 4 Fun, his local church and Westmead Hospital’s burn unit. Being a firefighter, Jason brings professional values of problem solving, resilience, integrity and a reassuring attitude working with vulnerable people. Clients feel very comfortable and safe with him and enjoy a good conversation from his life stories that brighten their day. He is a role model for all volunteers with his inspiring spirit of generosity, compassion and civic responsibility and we at Northside, are truly grateful to have him play such an active part of DARTS.

Jason is so passionate about volunteering and giving back to the community that his partner is inspired to volunteer with DARTS. Lindsey is relatively new to Australia and started volunteering with DARTS in Jan 2017 along with Jason. That shows the commitment that Jason has towards giving back to the community.

Congratulations Jason and thank you for your contribution!
